Page 2 of 2 Sophie has since shared her experiences with other young mothers. During a visit to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital in September 2005, the Countess of Wessex, who almost died in childbirth, spoke for the first time about her memories of the days surrounding Louise's birth on November 8th 2003, telling new Mum Naomi Hickton: "It was just a blur. I didn't see her for a few days". Appearing to be understandably emotional, Sophie also recalled the terror she felt at seeing her little girl lying in an incubator, saying: "It's quite frightening when you can't see them for wires".
Lady Louise is truly adored by her parents and grandparents. Friends admit that Sophie is a somewhat over-protective mother, which is understandable considering how long the Countess tried for a baby, and the circumstances of her birth. The Queen also extracts a huge amount of joy from spending time with her seventh grandchild, often snapping pictures of Louise with her engraved Lexicon camera. A friend of the royal parents admitted they'd been through a great deal of debate as to whether they felt their daughter, who was born four weeks premature was, at the age of less than three years, strong enough to endure any kind of operation: "It was a very tough decision but they are delighted that the op was a success and Louise's eyesight will now have a chance of developing normally." We can only hope that the traumas of this little girl's life are over and that she and her family go on to enjoy great happiness and good health. Comment on this article
