Bidder Nets Early Seasons Greetings From The Windsors PDF Print E-mail

We're only just past the first week of August but I'm afraid I'm about to mention that word: Christmas

A collection of cards sent by members of the Royal Family have been sold for £5,500 to an anonymous bidder at auction at Cottees in Wareham, Dorset.

The Christmas cards were originally sent to ex-King Constantine of Greece and his wife, Queen Anne-Marie, by members of the House of Windsor, including Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Prince Philip, throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.

Included in the sale were two cards signed by Charles and Diana, including one showing Prince William as a baby. Unsurprisingly, these were the highlight of the auction, selling for £1,595.

As you can see in the images of a previous auction of royal cards which took place in March this year, Diana didn't limit herself to Christmas greetings.

The fun loving Princess often sent cheeky or even rude greetings to her closest friends. One, seen above, depicted the then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher hoovering in her underwear, while the second (on the right....so be warned) was altogether cruder!
