A day before suspended Royal correspondent Clive Goodman appears in court charged with tapping into the voicemails of Clarence House, it would seem the journalist may harbour something of a grudge against the Prince of Wales himself.
Goodman is referred to by colleagues as "The Eternal Flame". The reason? Unlike the majority of the journalists who follow the royal scene, travelling the world with the Windsors, Goodman never goes out of the office.
Now it would seem he harbours non-too-friendly feelings towards Prince Charles, whose son William played a part in unravelling the truth of what was going on when he raised suspictions that private phone messages were being intercepted.
When the now suspended Royal Editor of The News of The World attended a cocktail party for the press, hosted by Charles (who always hated the stage-managed 'Meet The Press' events), Goodman was apparently insulted by a comment aimed in his direction by the heir to the throne.
Told that Goodman worked for Rupert Murdoch's News of The World a Sunday tabloid which has, in its time, caused huge embarrassment for the Royal Family Prince Charles is alleged to have made a snide remark, directly asking the journalist: "Did you have to un-learn English to go there?"
Let's hope Charles doesn't live to regret his rude and sarcastic 'welcome' for a man who knows where all the royal skeletons are buried....
