Why The Yolk's On Charles PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland

The newspaper — not a fan of the House of Windsor or monarchy in general — gleefully recounts the way in which the future King is so spoilt that he won't even pick up a piece of paper from a wastepaper bin, instead leaving a note for his staff which reads (for instance): "A letter from the Queen must have fallen by accident into the wastepaper basket beside the table in the library. Please look for it."

This story comes a day after Diana's former friend, journalist Richard Kay, noted how the plan released this week for William's future was, essentially, an exact copy of that followed by Prince Charles over three decades earlier....not what Diana would have wanted.

As Kay noted, Charles isn't in touch with the real world and it can only be hoped William — who for the early part of his life was very much integrated into the real world (as much as royalty can be) — isn't destined to suffer the same fate.

However Mr Paxman is not alone with the egg story , Wendy Berry in 'The Housekeeper's Diary ' was ahead of him by many years .

Charles had her book suppressed in the UK , and it still is , but of course it's available to the rest of the world . It sits on many a library shelf .

The book is quite mild in tone , just an account of the odd day to day life in the residence of Charles and Diana , but it is clearly incendiary to the POW . It makes him incandescent with rage

It is a bit embarassing that such an renowned journalist as mr Paxman can loose himself in futilities which trap himself.

He wrote about Prince Charles' demand that for breakfast there must always be seven eggs, boiled from extremely soft (number one) to rock hard (number 7) and all gradations in between. The Prince then makes a choice between the seven eggs, depending on his taste.

Asked about the source for this information mr Paxman replied: he heard it 'from friends'. But apparently he had not checked this information at all, as a good journalist ought to do.

Chris Barber, who for 11 years was chef of the princely kitchens: 'Prince Charles never ever throws food away. And as long as I was his chef, he has also never eaten any egg at all for breakfast'.

Ai ai, what a demasqué, mr Paxman....

Joanne, thanks so much for your commentary on that bad egg Charles!

Considering the way they have (1) tried to utilize her and describe him as a 'widow' since her death, (2) she was no ordinary ex-wife, but is still the Mother of the future King, and (3) the Mother of his children, Charles should have, if for no other reason than to spare his sons the pain of having to read the drivel about their late Mother, stepped up to the plate and quelched all negative press immediately upon Diana's death!

I just don't see why anyone would think it important to comment on Prince Charles food preferences. I have my food quirks too, as do we all. I want my food cooked the way I want it too, and if it isn't I don't want it! There's no real story here folks.

Why are you expected of Prince Charles to issue ANY denials on behalf of his FORMER wife? Show me any former husband who is issuing such a statements. I more expect her brother or sisters to do so. As for boiled eggs - how could you folks even know it is true? The source is "a friend of the prince" who is telling that story to the journalist selling just now his latest "royal" book. Sounds good?

I am not saying I believe the story, but I dont blame a person for checking out how cooked eggs are these days considering all the bacteria scares we are having. I personally wouldn't eat hard or soft boiled eggs, I much prefer scrambled. Because you can tell how cooked the eggs are.

I think Prince William benefited from his mother being there for him, as a mother, doing mother things.

I couldn't imagine the Queen taking Prince Charles to Macdonald's or go-carting.

I mean we never see pictures of Prince Charles when he was just being a kid.

Oh well said Joanne ! All the terrible posthumous trashing of Diana's reputation and not ONE WORD of denial issues forth from C/H ........ and then , one already well-known story is repeated of Charles incredible preciousness over his own life-style , and C/H INSTANTLY denies it because it makes the POW look both stupid and wasteful .

Probably most of the attacks on Diana origionated at C/H anyway , and no detail is too small to be attended to for Charles' own comfort , even to having a series of eggs , so that one at least will be cooked for the perfect time when he arrives .
IMO these are not kingly or noble character traits at all .

I don't think William will suffer the same fate as Charles.

Can anyone picture Charles in a pair of jeans laughing-smiley, or be photographed doing something as ordinary as shopping for food happy-smiley

This is what sets William apart from dear old dad.

Unfortunately, as far as his future goes the palace holds the status quo sad-smiley
