Queen Margrethe II of Denmark was joined by her son and daughter-in-law, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, and numerous dignitaries for a solemn service of remembrance for the life and death of one of the Danish Royal Family's ancestors, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia.

Hundreds packed into Roskilde Cathedral near Copenhagen earlier today to bid farewell to the Empress, who died in 1928.

The ceremony came just days before, as we reported here yesterday, the mother of Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, is returned to her adopted home for reburial alongside her husband, Tsar Alexander III.
