Camilla Fails To Sparkle PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Friday, 18 November 2005
We reported last night that Camilla "lit up" London, which she literally did by flicking the switch on Burlington Arcade's Christmas illuminations. But we now discover some of those who witnessed this rare solo appearance weren't impressed.

When organiser Trevor Pickett declared "Over to the Duchess of Cornwall", there was some disquiet expressed at the fact Camilla simply walked up, pressed the switch and walked away, uttering not one word of Christmas cheer to the crowds who'd gathered on a cold, dark Autumn night to offer their support.

One dismayed onlooker is quoted as telling tonight's London Evening Standard: "It was extraordinary. She just walked off".

Oh dear...

Let us hope Camilla had more to say when she and Charles met Liverpool Football Club captain Steven Gerrard at Anfield today. The soccer star posed for photos with the royal couple whilst holding the European Cup which the club won in Istanbul in May 2005.

It's the first time for a while that Charles in particular has been near a soccer trophy as it's a sport he's known to have little or no time for, despite the fact eldest son William is about to become President of the Football Association (FA) and is an ardent Aston Villa fan. Prince Harry too is a keen football fan but he supports another, far more successful London team, Arsene Wenger's mighty Arsenal.

It is known that Camilla does not like speaking in public but after switching on the lights it was reported that she spent some time mingling with and chatting to shoppers.

Thanks for your comments. They certainly vary, which is great!

Catherine, I do actually agree with you but the article I wrote (an update to an earlier one in which I happily acknowledged Camilla did well) was simply reporting the angle which appeared in the London Evening Standard. We do have to keep an open mind in so far as one day the UK media will portray Camilla something akin to the wicked witch of the west (not literally but you know what I mean!). Another day she's the best thing that's happened to the Royal Family. We're simply reporting the various stories and making our own comments if and when we think it might add to the story.

Anyway, thank you to everyone for giving us your opinions. Keep them coming happy-smiley

Joanne

camilla should know something about doing her job! Enough time and training and money has been spent on her to see that she appears to know what she is doing! She has come along way from when her wardrobe only consisted of smelly riding breeches and sweaty shirts! blue-smiley

A picture is worth a thousand words and can tell the truth.
This article is quite interesting and I don't think entirely accurate. If you check out empics or the other sites like that, photos show she smiled, talked and connected with people in the crowd. She might have left directly after the lighting but the photos show she spent some time with the crowd. Camilla knows how to do her job.

What else would we expect? The woman has no "sparkle" - no class. How typical to just flip a switch and leave - and how arrogant! But she'll never connect with the people the way Diana did...looks like she's not even trying.
