We reported last night that Camilla "lit up" London, which she literally did by flicking the switch on Burlington Arcade's Christmas illuminations. But we now discover some of those who witnessed this rare solo appearance weren't impressed. When organiser Trevor Pickett declared "Over to the Duchess of Cornwall", there was some disquiet expressed at the fact Camilla simply walked up, pressed the switch and walked away, uttering not one word of Christmas cheer to the crowds who'd gathered on a cold, dark Autumn night to offer their support. One dismayed onlooker is quoted as telling tonight's London Evening Standard: "It was extraordinary. She just walked off". Oh dear... ![]() Let us hope Camilla had more to say when she and Charles met Liverpool Football Club captain Steven Gerrard at Anfield today. The soccer star posed for photos with the royal couple whilst holding the European Cup which the club won in Istanbul in May 2005. It's the first time for a while that Charles in particular has been near a soccer trophy as it's a sport he's known to have little or no time for, despite the fact eldest son William is about to become President of the Football Association (FA) and is an ardent Aston Villa fan. Prince Harry too is a keen football fan but he supports another, far more successful London team, Arsene Wenger's mighty Arsenal. Comment on this article
