Emotion Reigns As Albert Takes The Throne PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland

There were emotional scenes at today's investiture of Prince Albert II to the throne of Monaco.

Over seven months since their father Prince Rainier was buried in a ceremony which attracted Kings and Queens from around the world, Albert - who is said to be worth a staggering 2.4 billion dollars - and his sisters Caroline and Stephanie were all openly tearful during the religious service which saw the 47-year-old Prince finally accede to the throne.

At one point Princess Caroline had tears rolling down her face during the highly emotional service as memories were reignited of her parents, Rainier, and the tragic car accident in September 1982 which took the life of her mother, Princess Grace.

Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex (wearing a very understated fawn outfit) represented the House of Windsor at the ceremony. Other European royals in attendance included Prince Emmanuel Filiberto of Italy and his wife Clotilde, and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

There were more joyful scenes later in the day as the Grimaldi family, including Caroline's children Andreas (Albert's heir), Pierre and Charlotte, appeared on the balcony of the Royal Palace to acknowledge the ecstatic crowds.

Tonight comes the most glamorous occasion of this weekend's celebrations when the royals will be dressed up to the nines to attend a special night at the opera.

Another fine overview, Joanne! Many royalty commentary on the Grimaldis tend to snark at them but in the end, only the smaller royal houses still put on a good show! With Caroline marrying a prince, she is in a small crowd of the Marie Astrid & Margaretha of Luxembourg and Alois of Liechtenstein taking on 'someone in the know'.
