The reversed decision may not even be on account of Mohammed Al Fayed's continuing crusade - it may have been on account of the Baroness percieving that there was intense public interest in the case .

On deciding that the threatened public anger over closed proceedings simply wasn't something the Establishment could get away with .

There would always have been suspicion of a
cover-up , since there has already been so much suspicion about Diana's convenient death and the apparently incredible series of Forensic blunders in the aftermath question

What legal battle has Al Fayed won?
As far as I understand it, he threatened legal action but did not actually do so.

Can someone tell me why it is so important to hold these preliminary hearings in public? I agree that everything should be as open and accessible in this case in attempt to at least TRY and make everyone happy, but I don't understand why there was such a big "to do" about having THIS part of the inquiry public? I've read several other articles (I can't see this one) and it sounds completely procedural -- nothing close to "the main event." Can anyone shed some light on this question Was this whole thing just to give Ma-F some ink, or will something of substance come from this?

The whole point of any enquiry, is to be open. Which would implies containing the evidence until the enquiry is over. How can anyone call an enquiry a serious effort of openess, and allow the car, in many ways the scene inside the scene of the event, to be excluded. Being open implies not cherry picking what is considered and what is omitted. There is probably a lot of details that should be laid out in the open. I think we should respect the process, and give the enquiry a chance to be taken seriously. Once the enquiry is over, the owner will get the car, of course. blue-smiley

He can dispose of it after it is no longer needed or required as evidence. Mr. Fayed might evidence which has been ignored. Evidence is what enquiries seek to focus on. His request must have had merit. The issues might now be brought out into the open, which I think is what Mr. Fayed was hoping for. An open enquiry, and open process. The car is just a side issue, evidence which has been tied up as evidence for close to a decade.

Everything connects, that car is still evidence. Don't assume you know how the system works. Obviously the car is not the main focus for Mr. Fayed, but this inquiry possibly could hold up the sell of it. You have to wait and find out. Mr. Fayed is the only one who is putting his money where his mouth is, he is a force to reckon with. Lets watch the powers to be squirm while they are now forced to ligitimize themselves for a change.

This inquiry also applies to Dodi Fayed, who is Mr. Fayed's son, therefore Mr. Fayed is personally involved in this matter. Also you can't have it both ways, as concerns Diana one minute she is royal, then one minute she is not. You're correct the Diana name does snag readers, and in the assassination theory is is Diana who was the target, Dodi was an innocent bystander.
Exploora: this has nothing to do with the car. Unfortunately the car is the property of Etoile Limousines of Paris, France, and the owner may dispose of it any way he wishes.

Certainly Mohammed Al Fayed has crusaded to get some open-ness and some justice seen to be done over the deaths of Diana and his own son . It must be admitted that he has not been above lies himself at times (Diana's last words ' etc ) .

But perhaps also the British Establishment has realized that a closed Court will only fuel more rumours about an assassination plot and a subsequent cover-up .

I have thought for some time that the large PR unit at Clarence House must monitor opinion on the M/Bs - how else are they to know what the people are thinking ? If so they will undoubtedly stop the Toff from further promotion of himself or his cook-book while his mother performs a royal duty such as turning on the Christmas lights ! We have to put up with her , but surely not him as well ?

thumbsup For changing to open Pre-lim hearings and an open Inquest , with jury too we must hope . Even better if it wasn't a Royal Servant jury ! blue-smiley

While I can understand Mr Al Fayed's standing and desire for information about the death of his son, what legal standing does he hold that allows him to insist on or obtain any additional inquiry into Diana's death? Or is it all the headlines are using Diana's name to snag readers?

I can't see an article. I would gather this new victory for Mr Fayed may have implications on the selling of "that" car. What happened to Princess Di shows why a tough person needs to be in the picture, and is willing to take the bull by the horn and "man" handle it a bit. Hooray for Mr. Fayed.
