TV ALERT: Kate Middleton v. The Paparazzi (ITV1) PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Sunday, 21 January 2007

Kate Middleton may not be royal (yet?) but she's already receiving the treatment afforded members of the family. Prince William's girlfriend will this week be the focus of more attention with a TV documentary in Britain investigating her increasingly controversial battle with the paparazzi.

ITV1 has focused in on the growing problem of the press interest in the woman who may be Queen with a special 30-minute investigation which will be broadcast on Thursday night.

Kate Middleton v. The Paparazzi will ask whether the Prince's girlfriend is fast becoming the 'new Diana' as newspapers and magazines rush to pay anything from £25,000 for a picture of Kate in her bikini.

Ironically, the documentary comes at a time when the British media at least has backed off Kate. Rupert Murdoch's News International has already announced they won't buy an photographs shot by paparazzi photographers.

However, it would seem there's one rule for William and Kate and another altogether for Harry and his girlfriend, Chelsy Davy. Last week The Sun published paparazzi images from Big Pictures — one of the world's biggest photo agencies — of Harry and Chelsy as they departed a London nightclub.

Another apparently unofficial paparazzi image of Harry appeared in the paper on Saturday morning, the excuse for running this one appearing to be a wholly unfair attack on Harry for his non-appearance on a 6am run with other members of his regiment, the claim being he'd shirked his duty to go clubbing with Chelsy.....little regarding the fact that he (along with other members of the Blues and Royals) had, in fact, been given time off after working diligently through much of Christmas and the New Year.

Despite their desire to try and protect Kate from the media spotlight, Thursday's broadcast is possibly one royal documentary of which the Clarence House spin machine will wholly approve, reminding the world as it does of the intense media pressure she's under each time she steps out of her front door, and why legal representatives may ultimately take the matter to the highest courts in the land.

Kate Middleton v. The Paparazzi will be broadcast on ITV1 at 10pm on Thursday 25th January. Please see our UK TV schedule for further details.

Why does Kate even have to establish her legal right to privacy when she goes on with her private business.

There should be a documentary on how the media manufactures sensation and sells it as a true story, when often it is exagerated and excessive and has a potential of marking a person for the rest of their life.

The documentary should be Kate and Chelsy v Paparazzi!!! If a ban can be put in place for William and Kate then the same should be true for Harry and Chelsy. If the paparazzi wants pictures then go for the Stars who welcome that attention and leave these two couples alone.
