A new poll from Down Under brings good
and bad news for the monarchy. A healthy majority want Queen Elizabeth
II to remain Australia's Head of State.
Unfortunately, though, it's a very different story when it comes to the
prospect of 'King Charles (or George VII as he will purportedly declare
himself) and his 'Princess Consort' Camilla taking pride of place on
the nation's stamps.
In a poll for The Weekend Australian, undertaken prior to Friday's Australia Day holiday, 45% of the Commonwealth nation is in favour of retaining the Queen.
Just 36% would prefer to elect a home grown, elected President.
This still leaves a not inconsiderable
number of people (19%) who would appear to be undecided on the
periodically heated debate about Australia's links to the
constitutional monarchy.
