Palace 'To Announce Royal Engagement In August' PDF Print E-mail

No, it's not that one.....but heck, it made you look (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist)!

Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Phillips, is reportedly set to beat younger cousin Prince William down the aisle after becoming secretly engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Mike Tindall.

According to journalist Katie Nicholls, writing in her Mail on Sunday column, the Queeen's granddaughter was hoping to keep her exciting news secret, telling only her closest friends and family that she is preparing to wed her gentle giant of a rugby star boyfriend. The couple already live together in a cottage on the Princess Royal's Gatcombe Park Estate.

Reveals an unnamed Palace source: "Zara and Mike are planning to make the engagement official in August, after consulting palace seniors on suitable dates to make the announcement."

"Even though they are a very down-to-earth couple and keep themselves to themselves, they still have to follow Royal protocol. It's not like they can just announce the engagement when they feel like it."

The timing may be deemed a little unexpected as the news would come just a year before Zara is hoping to top her award-winning equestrian career with a role at the heart of the British Olympic team in Beijing in 2008.

It is because of Zara's dream of winning an Olympic gold to go with her World and British Championship medals that Princes William and Harry's much loved cousin is putting off plans to start a family, the source claiming: "There's a lot Zara still wants to achieve but she has even told Mike she's prepared to give up eventing once they are married. She's aware how dangerous the sport is and that having a family brings new commitments."
