This report comes with a public health
warning: if you're tired of speculation on the 'imminent' marriage of
Prince William and Kate Middleton, please look away now.....
One of Britain's biggest bookmakers, William Hill, has announced they've finally closed the book on a marriage between the future King and his girlfriend.
All of which possibly leaves many
royal watchers almost screaming: when will the couple themselves close
the book and put us all out of our misery by ending the 'will they,
won't they' circus?
The decision by William Hill comes after the organisation saw a flurry of bets laid following the appearance of The Sun's royal photographer Arthur Edwards before a committee of MPs debating the media's treatment of Kate.
The esteemed snapper seemed to have his finger on more than the button of his camera when he appeared to authoritatively declare that 24-year-old William will definitely marry his girlfriend of around five years.
Although Clarence House promptly denied Wiliam is preparing to marry, the bookies are simply not convinced.
Could it be that some of the older generation of bookmakers have a long
memory and recall the Buckingham Palace announcement in early 1973
which declared that Princess Anne was not about to become engaged to her boyfriend, Captain Mark Phillips?
That firm denial to inquisitive members of the press came just weeks
before the Palace announced, er, yes......'Princess Anne is to marry
Captain Mark Phillips'.
