When the Norwegian Royal Palace was built in 1849, the architects likely didn't envisage the day their pride and joy would be put up for sale with a price tag of just $1 (52p).

But that's exactly what happened when a cheeky hoaxer decided to try and sell the royal residence on the internet auction site eBay.

It's not the first time a blue-blooded resident has been placed under jokey threat of eviction by one of their subjects.

Many years after Queen Victoria had essentially withdrawn from public life following the premature death of her 'beloved Albert', a member of the increasingly frustrated populace hung a sign on the gates of Buckingham Palace reading: "To Let".

Like Victoria before them, King Harald and Queen Sonia needn't worry. The eBay advert was quickly removed, although not before the sale received one bid of $99,999,99.

Darn it......I was quite looking forward to living in a Palace, although I'm not sure my bank manager would really have awarded me such a large overdraft!
