We're still two months away from the Windsors arriving en masse for the Chelsea Flower Show in London, but across the Channel Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden has been enjoying a visit to the world's largest international flower show in Holland.
Accompanied by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Jan Peter Balkenende, the 29-year-old future Queen was guest of honour at the start of the 58th edition of Keukenhof.
The Princess was invited to the show to open the Herbarium Amoris Exhibition which is being staged in celebration of the life and work of one of Sweden's most famous scientists, Carl Linnaeus.
Comment: Great comment Henri . The two Royal Houses are very close indeed Maxima must be almost on the point of having her third baby .

Comment: After the opening of the Keukenhof, the Crown Princess travelled to Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague to meet her godmother Queen Beatrix. Also Princess Máxima was there. She brought along her eldest daughter Princess Catharina-Amalia, who is a goddaughter to Crown Princess Victoria. The Crown Princess' father, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, on his turn was a godson to Queen Juliana, the previous Queen.
It is illustrative for the close ties between the Houses of Sweden and the Netherlands.
By the way, 'Keukenhof' means 'the Kitchens' Courtyard'. Already in the 15th century the large park provided flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruits for the kitchens of the Court. In the course of the centuries, the park evolued into a renowned flower park, but the name 'Keukenhof' never changed and is a reminder to the origins of the park.
