The Queen: "My Grandson Is A Pain" PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Monday, 09 April 2007

While Prince Harry has been receiving some very public kisses from girlfriend Chelsy Davy, it would seem he can't expect a similarly warm greeting next time he meets up with 'granny'.

It's claimed the Queen recently made clear her feelings about Harry's penchant for drinking and clubbing, allegedly telling a courtier: "My grandson is a pain."

Although admirably not known for her public proclamations on personal matters, the Queen has never been afraid to make private judgments about certain members of her family.

According to friends and aides, the Queen was less than pleased by what she deemed the "guttersnipe" private life of her sister, Princess Margaret. Meanwhile, in one of her most stringent views, Her Majesty even reportedly told her eldest son Charles that his lover, Mrs Camilla Parker Bowles, was a "wicked woman".

Now, the Queen is said to have added one of her grandchildren to the list of those royals of whose behaviour she disapproves.

Journalist Richard Kay had a less than welcome Easter present for Prince Harry with the revelation that 'granny' has been discussing his recent alleged bad behaviour with a close member of staff.

According to Kay, following the recent round of negative headlines relating to Harry's allegedly drunken fracas with a paparazzo outside Boujis nightclub, the Queen told a courtier: "My grandson is a pain".

Unbowed by the recent controversies which have unfortunately attached themselves to his name, Harry is continuing to enjoy a little fun away from London.

Just weeks away from finally deploying to Iraq with his regiment of the Blues and Royals of The Household Cavalry, the third-in-line to the throne has been publicly showing his love for his girlfriend of  more than two years.

Although it was believed Harry and Chelsy wouldn't make an appearance at the ongoing World Cup Cricket tournament in the Caribbean until the April 17th clash between their respective homelands — England and South Africa — the couple joined spectators in the stands in Antigua at Sunday's latest meeting between England and Australia.

While representatives of the 'Barmy Army' were crying into their beers as the England team once again capitulated to yet another onslaught from their old adversaries, Harry was able to enjoy a compensatory kiss from Chelsy.

The very public show of affection between the couple comes after recent speculation that Chelsy was upset by newspaper reports again linking her boyfriend to his close friend, Natalie Pinkham. The Prince and his TV presenter pal have enjoyed several nights on the town together with other friends in London, although Natalie herself went public to deny she was trying to steal the Prince from Chelsy.

Strangely, considering Sunday's very public display of love — one which the couple surely knew would be captured by the cameras (the match was broadcast live on TV worldwide) — a fellow holidaymaker has claimed Harry and 21-year-old Chelsy have been keen to stay out of the public eye, saying of their 'private' holiday: "They are making a concerted effort not to even be seen together, but everyone knows who they are. Harry was in the pool when he was mobbed by children screaming "Prince Harry". He jumped out without saying a word looking embarrassed, although Chelsy smiled and said hello."

All too soon, the fun and games will be over for the Prince as he prepares to say goodbye to the high life with a private party for friends back in London before he becomes the first royal prince for a quarter of a century to fight on the frontline.

I believe things have changed a lot since Prince Andrew's days with the lovely Koo Stark!!He being her son and NOT grandson, and the monarchy still having more mystery about it back then, the Queen still had some control over Andrew and had him break it off..

Now over 25 years later, and how the world has changed, I doubt if she'll have the same power and control over her Grandsons. Especially Harry and William. As far as their own father goes, his priorities lay elsewhere, and he doesn't give much direction to them. Perhaps he gives an order through a courtier to his sons, but he is NOT hands on in my opinion! He wife has been his main force and drive!!
I have enjoyed seeing these photos of Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy. They are much more connected then I think that William and Kate are! I like them as a couple..I hope the future holds a great continued relationship for them!thumbsuphappy-smiley Very good article!!

Interesting to read that Harry and Chelsey were at the Cricket World Cup match in Antigua on Sunday between England and Australia. I watched that match in its entirety and I don't recall any of the commentators making mention of his presence. The producers might have had a camera zoom in on him and a commentator say something, but if it happened, I must of missed it.
So maybe he does get some privacy.

From what Richard Kay writes HM said to the Courtier "My Grandson is a pain" it does not mention which prince by name although Harry is the odds on favorite William and his breast holding incident could indicate she was refering to him. If HM was referring to Harry well all I have got to say is HE IS A LOVABLE PAIN.laughing-smiley

Well if you look at above pictures, Harry is still cute, so behaving like that is not as repulsive or pitiful as if he looked like that fellow sharing the front page with him.

So if Harry is really ignoring his grandmother's alleged sorrow, hopefully he doesn't ignore how pitiful a middle aged middle can look on a naked man.

If the wrath of God or HM can't scare Harry or Wills in regulating their drink, perhaps the picture of that man's middle might.

I would be willing to bet if it IS true the Queen said this, it was leaked on purpose. Can you imagine being the courtier she said it to? There would be no denying he leaked to the press!

Poor Harry cannot seem to ever get a break from being damned by the media. It is quite obvious especially since his brother rarely gets the same thrashing as Harry does for similar behaviour. I give Harry credit for being himself even with the pressure of the media. I do think he is drinking excessively- and his brother too.

I would think HM is not pleased with Wills recent photos either.

Joanne is just stating the obvious. What grandmother wouldn't be concerned?

That doesn't mean we have to agree. I sort of think both Harry and Wills' antics are sort of cute, as long they stop or at least slow down before they are thirty. It is almost normal to behave like that in your twenties, it is a problem if you drink all day, which neither seem to be doing, they both work, they both finished military school, which was not easy,I am sure.

I suspect Harry is not the only who may be drowning his fear in drink before going to Iraq.

Hi Karmen

Can I say (with a smile of course!): Don't shoot the messenger happy-smiley

I'm just reporting the latest news on Prince Harry — as with all the royals I do try to be unbiased and therefore that includes reporting all aspects.

Following all of the recent reporting of Prince Harry, it's interesting to see that the Queen, of all people, appears concerned by the coverage and/or behaviour of her grandson.

As I made clear, it is an alleged comment, about which it's down to others to make up their minds.

Happy Easter, Karmen, and thanks as always for your Comments happy-smiley

Joanne, Why did you have to merge these otherwise nice and sweet articles about the ever cute and happy couple Harry and Chelsy, with the negative article... no RUMOR... that The Queen, of all people, thinks Harry is a "pain"???

It just is really annoying to me that whenever there is a good article, no matter how small, it is always loudly followed by a negative article directed right at Harry. thumbsdown
