Had Diana truly followed superstition within the House of Windsor, she may not have made that fateful journey through Paris in the early hours of Saturday 31st August 1997.



As you can read here, in the past seven decades alone, no fewer than five senior members of the Royal Family have died in tragic circumstances in the final days of August. What is traditionally a Bank Holiday weekend in Britain has far too often turned into one of unexpected mourning for the Queen and her family.

Perhaps unsurprisingly consider his mother's interest in such matters, Prince Harry too is superstitious.


Despite the fact his favourite red shirt is now badly faded — had mummy been around, it's likely the shirt would have long been consigned into the bin bags of clothes she regularly deposited with charities working to help the homeless — the Prince continues to wear a favourite polo shirt purely because he's won so many matches with this on his back.

Such sporting superstition has passed over into Harry's love of rugby.

In November 2003, the Prince infuriated the sponsors of England's rugby team by adamantly refusing to change his old shirt, complete with the name of the former sponsors BT Cellnet, to the new kit which advertised the mobile phone provider O2.




Bosses at the latter company's headquarters were infuriated by this snub. Having already sent the young royal numerous shirts in the hope he'd finally get the message, they enlisted the help of officials at the Rugby Football Union.

It was to no avail....
