A Palace source appears to back up this story, telling The Sun: "Her Majesty has been fond of Arsenal for over 50 years. Her late mother was a self-confessed Gooner, due largely to her admiration of their former player Denis Compton." It was in 1955 that the Queen Mother confessed to being a fan of the club, telling Compton: "I'm an Arsenal supporter! Didnt you know?" In reality, though, the Queen is no great fan of the 'beautiful game', as could be seen by the frequently bored look on Her Majesty's face as she attended a Euro 96 match at Wembley stadium. One fact she certainly won't have passed on to the Arsenal team, which includes such millionaire soccer stars as Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg, is that she openly believes many Premiership football stars are "prima donnas".
