Laughing with photographers, Mary revealed her new daughter, who slept soundly throughout the photocall, is an absolute joy, saying: "She's been very good and kind to her mother."
The Princess also revealed her first child, Prince Christian, had said hello to his little sister during a private visit to the hospital on Sunday morning.
According to Australian-born Mary, a former Sydney estate agent, her 18-month old son was delighted to meet his sister: "He was enthusiastic to see her and showed a little bit of boyish love."
Although all eyes were invariably on the special ladies in his life, Crown Prince Frederik also took time to speak to the gathered media, saying he and his wife are "fortunate and lucky" to have been blessed with a girl.
