Another Blow For The Concert For Diana? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland

It's already in danger of being overshadowed by the Live Earth series of gigs on July 7th. Now the Concert For Diana may find itself pushed even further down the news agenda due to a major shift in the political landscape in Britain.

Prime Minister Tony Blair has announced that he will make a statement next week regarding the date of his departure from office.

Speaking on the day he celebrates a decade in Number 10 Downing Street, the PM revealed: "I'll make my position clear next week, I'll say something definitive then."

This has now resulted in speculation surrounding the exact timeline of his departure, with the general concensus appearing to be that he will hand over to his successor following an electoral college within the Labour Party on June 30th.

If this were to be the case, it will mean all eyes will be on Downing Street and Buckingham Palace, inside the Audience Room of which the new PM will metaphorically kiss hands (nothing more than a handshake) with the Queen.

At this point it's believed the Chancellor of The Exchequer, Gordon Brown, is almost certain to take over from his Downing Street neighbour. Tony Blair, who has engaged in many behind-the-scenes battles (some would say 'open warfare') with Brown has today declared Britain will "in all probability" have a Scottish Prime Minister within a few weeks.
