The story is this: William, as can be seen from the image in Friday's Daily Mail, has been enjoying a spell with an Airforce mountain rescue team during work experience in Snowdonia. The Prince, who is said to want to follow his father Charles and uncle Prince Andrew, by learning to fly, is reported to have been flown to RAF Lynham from Anglesey, North Wales. The trip, all 160-miles, is alleged to have cost the British taxpayer tens of thousands of pounds the figure rises and falls depending on which newspaper you buy. But are we really to believe William, who is genuinely one of the cleverest members of the Royal Family, essentially abused his position to cadge a lift from the highly esteemed and often overworked and underpaid members of the RAF? Remember, these sensational headlines (as exciting and fun as they might be) don't come with a health warning. And as you can tell from its name, 'RAF' Lynham IS a major base for the Royal Air Force. "The timing was unfortunate but there was nothing William could do about it. RAF pilots make journeys like this all the time as part of their programme anyway". |
