Diana Memorial: Live TV Broadcast Schedule Revealed

The
first details of the planned British TV coverage of the August 31st
memorial service for Diana have been revealed.
BBC One will broadcast live from Guards Chapel from 11am until 1.15pm.
ITV1 is giving over similarly extensive coverage to the memorial service, with
a broadcast starting at 11.45am and ending at 1.30pm.
Sophie Raworth and James Naughtie will
present the BBC coverage, while Mary Nightingale will take charge for ITV1.
It had previously been reported in a diary piece in the Daily Mail that officials had ruled that no TV
cameras would be allowed entry to Guards Chapel.
However, such is the extensive length of time being given over to the event by both the BBC and ITV that it would now seem all-but certain that the memorial service will be seen by a worldwide audience and that the earlier suggestion that just one stills camera and one journalist would be invited to the event was indeed false.
As with all planned TV broadcasts, times are of course subject to change.
Although
I can't, of course, forsee the schedules of TV stations across the
globe, it's likely the Diana memorial service will be broadcast around
the world, especially via rolling news stations.
Therefore, you may
like to visit this World Clock website or similar to convert the local UK (GMT) time to that of your location.
Also, I'd be hugely grateful if you could share with us any details you
may see of planned TV broadcasts of the live event in your local
region, which I'll duly post here.
Comment: Muriel, The LIFETIME channel will premiere “The Murder of Princess Diana” on Sat. Aug. 25 at 9pm EST. The movie’s premise is that an American journalist (Jennifer Morrison) witnesses Princess Diana's fatal car crash and thinks there may be more to the story than just a tragic accident.
For what it's worth...

Comment: It's sad really, his life seems to have just stopped ten years ago. He's never made it through the grieving process. I know what you mean, I don't much like him either, but I can't help feeling a little sorry for him. I hope one day he finds the peace that so far has eluded him.

Comment: I've seen Dodi's apartment on the DVD 'Spirit of Diana'. Even the stuff in his fridge, by now ten years out of date has not been changed. I feel sorry for Fayed although I don't much like him. Not only is he mourning his son and Diana, he mourns what he thinks would of happened between them (i.e marriage etc) even though his idea of the future was nothing but a fairytale.

Comment: If it's been shown here Valmae, it wasn't advertised or at least I didn't see anything about it. When Greta interviewed him, he was just so completely sincere! I just really think he's talked himself into believing every word he uttered. It really is quite an apartment! It's not been touched, nothing, in ten years. He says it will be like that forever. He has the Koran piped in on a continuous loop, and goes there to sit, he says it comforts him. Kind of eerie I think.

Comment: There's a radio programme on the subject tomorrow on BBC.4, broadcast at 9 a.m. and repeated in the evening. You should be able to pick it up via the BBC site at the time of broadcast, but quite a lot of programmes are "on demand".
Very interested in your views on Mohammed Fayed, I think I agree about trying to cover up his guilt as well as his grief. Has the Channel 5 docu. been shown over there yet? He was actually interviewed, but the docudrama which ran as a thread through the programme wasn't particularly complimentary to him. I haven't heard him complain about it, yet!

Comment: I think Greta's series is supposed to be three part, so maybe we'll move on to realism in the next installment. I don't know whether they will all be on Saturdays or not. I don't know whether he knows the difference between the truth and his fantasy anymore or not. I do remember him getting all upset when it was first asked if she was pregnant, he thought it was terrible that anyone would think such a thing, how times change. I suppose the Spencers might sue, but I doubt that William and Harry would, you would think that if anyone was going to they would have filed suit by now. I agree, the statue is, how shall I say, different. I don't think it even looks like her. The dolls that I've seen over the years don't either. My grand daughter gave me the one of Diana in her wedding dress some years ago and the doll looks nothing like her. The dress is lovely though. Did anyone see Germaine Greer's latest comments? The woman is ignorant! She fancied herself as a sort of "icon in the masking" years ago, didn't pan out, so maybe she's jealous because she knows her passing won't be mourned as Diana's was. Some folks may lift a glass in celebration though!

Comment: Muriel, I missed the first few minutes, but I watched the Fox special. IMO, it was very one-sided as it was all from the Al Fayed point of view. Personally, I thought it was all about him and his employees attempting to mold, if not totally rewrite, history. If Diana really KNEW Dodi for many years, as they claimed, I think one of the many people who have written books since her death would have spilled the beans by now. Also, when Al Fayed stated that Diana told him she was pregnant, now, IMO, that is quite something. He does have a good imagination, does he not?
I believe the man had his heart set on a happily-ever-after and it was snatched from him. (Not that I believe it was more than a summer romance from Diana’s point of view.) Not only didn’t it happen, but he lost his son and Diana died on “his watch.” There must be a tremendous amount of guilt on his part. I don’t know where the fine line is between him believing what he says and where he knows he is lying, but surely, he must be aware of it to some degree.
Back to the special…did you ever see the monuments at Harrods? I will be polite and say they are “something else”…especially the statue. And I don’t mean that favorably.

Comment: Diana and Dodi first met in the 80's, but had little to do with one another. They didn't really know each other until the summer of "97. Mr Al Fayed was a friend of Diana's father, he offered Diana to sit on the board of Harrods, which she declined, he then offered it to her stepmother Raine, who accepted. Mohammed Al Fayed is deadly serious about what he believes, but I wonder how much has to do with the fact he could be sued by Diana's family. I, for one, am very glad he is not keeping quiet, there are too many questions about this entire thing that haven't been answered properly.

Comment: I still haven't heard anything about TV coverage here, but on Fox News last night Greta Van Susteren had a really interesting program on Diana and Dodi. I did not realize that they had known each other for so many years, I thought they had met shortly before the accident, just that summer actually. She talked at length with Dodi's father, and I really think he believes what he says. Monika, check the other article for my post.
