Its been revealed that the Earl and Countess of Wessex
will attend next weeks memorial service for Diana, Princess of Wales.
However, the latest update to the diary of royal engagements, released today by
Buckingham Palace, is yet to confirm the appearance at the televised service of
the Duchess of Cornwall. Nor is there any mention as yet of Princes Charles, William and Harry, albeit there is no doubt they will be at the event honouring Diana on the 10th anniversary of her death.
The late Princess enjoyed relatively good relations with Prince Edward, and the
two even undertook a public engagement together following Dianas official
separation from the Prince of Wales.
In an unexpected move, the Princess now very much seen as estranged from the
Royal Family - joined her brother-in-law at a Commonwealth Day reception at
Marlborough House in London in March 1993.
Onlookers noted how happy and
relaxed Diana and Edward were together as the Prince deputised for the Queen,
whod pulled out of the event due to a bout of flu.
Unfortunately, the Princesss demeanour
was wholly different when it came to any contact with Edward's
girlfriend, the then Sophie Rhys Jones.
During the early years of Sophies long
apprenticeship into the House of Windsor, the tabloid press made much
of her perceived likeness to a
young Lady Diana Spencer.
This was primarily down to Sophies short, dyed
blonde hair and tendency to wear 'Sloane Ranger' outfits, including blazers and jeans, which bore a striking
resemblance to those worn by the Princess of Wales.
