Welcome To London, Chelsy! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Wednesday, 12 September 2007

Just hours into her stay in Britain, Chelsy witnessed a confrontation between Harry and a photographer outside a flat in Central London, an onlooker to the skirmish reporting: "Harry totally flipped out. He was screaming at him and kept shouting, 'I'll punch you in the f***ing face' while the photographer looked on stunned. At one point Harry ran straight for him."

Harry and Chelsy had reportedly been inside a flat on the King's Road when they came to the attention of at least one photographer, the onlooker continuing: "She {Chelsy} looked really angry and upset, as if she had just had a fight or something. Then Harry also came out almost straight away and started running down the street after her. He didn't see the photographer at first but as soon as he did he started shouting at him, 'Don't you f***ing dare'.

"Because he didn't leave, Harry got even angrier and shouted, 'I'll punch you in the f***ing face' over and over at him."

"He was red-faced and angry - like he really meant it. He started holding his hands out in a 'Wanna have a go?' manner. Then he ran straight at him. At this point a car came screaming down the street and a security guy inside came out and dragged Harry into the back. Chelsy was already in there."

According to another who witnessed the whole undignified episode involving the third-in-line to the throne: "I didn't see the photographer do anything to antagonise Harry. I guess he just caught him at a bad time. As soon as Harry came out of the flat he was clearly already in a really bad mood."

Seeing the look on her face earlier today, it could be that Chelsy will be relieved to leave the bright lights of London for the start of her law course at Leeds University.

Well I'm with the Queen on this - she is reported to have remarked dryly that the Press problem would be much reduced if the Princes' GFs wore longer skirts (longer than Micro-Mini that is ) and stayed away from particular London clubs .

Mahiki would seem to be the one most useful to stay away from laughing-smiley

I feel bad for Harry! He can't seem to win or get it right, somehow..To have a great deal of your life played out in newspapers, the good and the bad, and photographers trailing you and really no privacy . Must be H*ll for him..I really believe he has a good heart.
Chelsey will be much better out of the limelight, back in university.. I hope she can persevere in her plan for staying in England, although she must have known ( seeing Kate in the media and what she has been through with the photogs)what could be expected..blue-smiley Hope she will come to deal with the attention..

I thaught her brother Shaun was sort of like her body guard. I didn't think Chelsy's father let her out of the mansion without Shaun. This is just my opinion, not even based on what I read, or even what I heard, just what I would be doing if I was Chelsy and Shaun's father. I wouldn't be able to let that girl out of my sight without worrying about her for one minute.

Di was very polished, despite all the things people say, you could tell she went to a proper British school and knew what was expected of her, and usually behaved that way. She possibly even married Charles because that was expected of her.

I would doubt Chelsy would do that, which in a way is a good thing.

Sometimes I am lost for words when it comes to describing our Prince Harry, Joanne does such a great job and makes it look easy describing Harry. I would have no idea how to describe him.

You make a good point, Monika. Lady Diana always smiled and was very pleasant to the press, even when walking from house to car and car to work. Fergie did the same thing as well. I'd rather see a picture of someone smiling then looking grumpy.

I do have pictures of Diana not looking happy but they tended to be more of the type of picture that was taken from a distance when she thought there were no press around, and that was correct as who walks around smiling all day?

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is each person has a way of dealing with it and Chelsy will have to learn how to as the British press, I'm shameful to admit is a very savage press.

As long as Kate and Chelsy date their princes, the photographers will be part of their day to day lives. IMO, pouting and looking annoyed is more fitting for a spoiled Hollywood actress. I think Kate's method of smiling and getting on with it is indicative of class and good manners. Going about one’s everyday life hardly qualifies as posing. Diana did much of the same when she was the PoW's girlfriend. She understood that they had a job to do and, more importantly, she grasped the fact that HOW she handled them was an informal test to see what she was made of.

I assume you are referring to Kate in this quote. However, perhaps her grinning and smiling is her way of coping, as looking miserable and grumpy is Chelsy's way of dealing with the press. Unless one is in that situation its' hard to know what to do for the best. Having worked in London in the 1990's I saw many celebrities being followed by photographers and each of them had their own way of dealing with it, whether it be fighting them, swearing or posing and prancing.

IMO Chelsy is going to have to learn to deal with this. And if she really doesn't like it she should quit it. She must of known by the press interest in Kate and in fact, Diana what it was going to be like.

And she should also perhaps chat to her friends and stop making her look dumb by making vulgar gestures.

I agree that the RF should not pay for police protection for girlfriends or boyfriends. It is up to the individual to determine how much they are willing to deal with and act accordingly.

As for the gesture made by Chelsy's friend, I think it was unnecessary and it says more about her than any frustration she may have felt over being photographed--especially since they were already in a cab. Bad behavior is bad behavior, whether it's Harry losing his cool or anyone else. I can understand the frustration and anger, but it's how you deal with it that shows what you're made of.

I would much rather see a gf look not very pleased too see a huge amount of paparazzi in her face and just leave than one preening and posing and grinning away at them. To me it shows Chelsy just getting on with her life and dealing with the unwanted attention the best way she knows how.

At least she is not courting the press than complaining the next week. Even though imho she has more reason than the other gf to complain, yet she doesn't. thumbsup

Why should the royal family and therefore the British taxpayers provide a detective for Chelsy or Kate for that matter? It the girls are not royal then Clarence House has no obligation to provide security for them. If Chelsy is that worried about the papparazzi and her safety then her wealthy father should pay for her to be protected, or Chelsy can choose to go to some of the less famous haunts in London. I dont' think the taxpayer should pay to have Chelsy protection when she is still a simple girlfriend of Harry's.

I think Harry's behavior was just fine. Why doesn't CH provide detectives for these girls?
