One is a regal in-law who can always be relied upon to inject a little
colour into the royal scene. The other is a royal relation who has
witnessed from the sidelines the often cruel nature of fame.
Last night, Princess Michael of Kent met up at a charity event in
London with a man who frequently dines at the royal table thanks to his
ultra-famous sibling.
The Duchess of Cornwalls brother, Mark Shand (left), was able to call upon some extra royal
support last night as he welcomed Princess Michael of Kent to the Serpentine
Gallery in London for an event titled the Quintessentially Trunk Party.
While invariably overshadowed by Camilla, and even
to a point (in the media at least) their other sibling Annabel, Mark
has
travelled his own very different but equally successful path in life.
It is also one which has seen him enjoy some rather interesting love
affairs of
his own, including one with the sister of America's former First Lady,
Jackie Kennedy: Princess Lee Radziwill. The connections with the
world's other famous family also extended to a romance between Mark and
Jackie's daughter, Caroline Kennedy.
But
while his sister has devoted much of her life to her
love affair with the future King, aside from his love of the opposite
sex, Mark's great passion has always been that which sees him helping
in
the conservation of elephants.
He's extensively involved with the Elephant Family,
a charitable organisation which works to help and protect the world's remaining Asian elephants.
