Despite being (as with many royals) the Chancellor of at least one University, Prince Philip famously mused: "I'm one of those stupid bums who never
went to university and it hasnt done me any harm."
This comment latterly prompted his eldest son, Prince Charles, to quip: "I'm one of those stupid bums who went to University. Well, I don't think it's done me any harm."
Increasingly, though, it would appear that both royalty and celebrity needn't be too concerned if they don't excel in the world of academia.
More than two decades since he was awarded a second class degree in history from Cambridge University, Prince Edward has picked up a new degree.
Currently embarked on an official six-day tour of
Canada, the Queen and Prince Philip's youngest son received an honorary
doctor of laws degree on Saturday from the aptly-named University of
Prince Edward Island in Charlottetown.
Thankfully for him, this latest award didn't require him
to study deep into the night....nor did it provoke the kind of
controversy which surrounded that for which he actively studied.
