The
worlds longest reigning monarch has been hospitalised after losing feeling in
the right side of his body.
King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, who celebrated his Diamond Jubilee
last year, was admitted to hospital on Saturday after doctors
became concerned about his health.
The 79-year-old King was later diagnosed to be suffering the effects of an inadequate supply of blood being
pumped to his brain.
According to a brief statement released by the royal palace on Sunday: "The
condition of His Majesty the King is improving. The right side of his body is
regaining some strength.''
Visiting her husband in Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital, Queen Sirikit thanked the crowds of
well-wishers whod gathered in the street outside to show their support.
Having already commemorated his 60th anniversary
on the throne with national celebrations in 2006, the Thai people are
due to celebrate the King's 80th birthday in December.
Many of those gathered outside the hospital repeatedly shouted "Long Live The
King"
in what would have been a welcome show of support for the Royal Family
following the bloodless military coup of September 19th 2006 which saw
tanks on the streets of Bangkok and the eviction from office of Prime
Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
This was the 17th coup since 1945, yet the nation has enjoyed overall
stability thanks to the leadership of the hugely revered monarch.
Acknowledging
the crowds who've rarely shown anything but absolute loyalty to her husband, the Queen said: "His Majesty is fine, and getting better."
This isnt the first time King Bhumibol's health has caused concern.
