Thousands
of people have turned out on the streets of Bangkok to wish the world's longest-reigning monarch well
following the release from hospital of King Bhumibol of Thailand.
Just weeks before his 80th birthday will herald even more celebrations,
the King waved to th crowds as he left Siriraj Hospital twenty-six days after
he was admitted to undergo tests for weakness in his right side.
The world’s longest reigning monarch appeared before his subjects wearing a
pink jacket, a colour which is a symbol of good health. The king was accompanied by his wife, Queen Sirikit and their eldest child, Princess Ubolratana.
Although initially pushed along in a
wheelchair, the King latterly relied on a
walker to assist his movement as he came into the view of the crowds,
many of whom have been praying to photographs of the king and staging
vigils for his recovery.
In a touching moment, the King was seen to take out his camera and proceed to
take photographs of a statue of his parents which are located in the grounds of the hospital before he was finally driven away
to continue to recover in private at the Chitralada Palace.
