Ouch! Poor Prince William. The boy who was once the darling of the media is certainly beginning to suffer some of the injustices faced by his parents. Last month he was attacked for his use of a military jet to supposedly retrieve a pair of boots he'd forgotten (yes, it really was a ridiculous story, wasn't it?). Now, just a few hours into 2006, even the esteemed Sunday Times is having a go. Today's Atticus gossip column in The Sunday Times refers to the fact William, just a week away from joining brother Harry at Sandhurst Military Academy, will soon be made to have a haircut befitting an Army recruit, in other words the short, back and sides style so often sported by Harry. Apparently, though, William always fought shy of having this rather severe cut whilst a member of the Eton Cadet Corp, preferring instead to stick with his favoured floppy hairstyle (and who at Eton College was going to argue with a Prince of the Realm?). Once again, though, the Press just can't resist sticking the boot in with regard to the genetic trait the 23-year-old has primarily inherited from the royal gene pool. According to the Atticus journalist, for William "theres no chance from next Monday of covering up that trademark bald patch". Ok, so it's not the nastiest remark ever delivered about a royal but it's a comment the like of which is becoming more frequent in the British Press. These days it is Harry, not William, who is tending to be portrayed as the 'pin-up' boy of the Royal Family. It would be understandable if, on reading this latest in a long line of cutting comments about his receding hair, Prince William feels like delivering a response of 'and a Happy New Year to you too!' to the London offices of The Sunday Times. Maybe he could even include in his message his Aunt Anne's most famous riposte to the baying Press, one which doesn't need repeating as we're sure you all remember it very well?!
