Wedding Bells For A Windsor Lady PDF Print E-mail

It’s turning into a real month of celebration for the House of Windsor, Buckingham Palace having confirmed that another member of the family is to wed.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester’s daughter, Lady Rose Windsor, is to marry her boyfriend of more than two years, the announcement coming in the Court Circular on Friday ahead of events marking the far more high profile union of the Queen and Prince Philip.

The Royal Family, including Lady Rose and her relatives, are preparing to gather en masse for tomorrow's thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey to mark the Diamond Wedding anniversary of Elizabeth and Philip.

While the Queen's immediate family have suffered many marital woes and not a few connected scandals, her first cousin has been blessed with a happy marriage, one which began in relatively low-key circumstances with the wedding of Prince Richard of Gloucester and Danish-born Birgitte van Deurs at St. Andrew's Church in Barnwell, Northamptonshire, in July 1972.

Having grown up at Apartment 1 at Kensington Palace, 27-year-old Lady Rose is the last of the offspring of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester to officially leave the nest.

Her fiancée is George Gilman, whose father was a director of Leeds United Football Club.

Lady Rose has previously dated Rupert Young, the brother of Pop Idol winner Will Young, and as with her elder siblings, we can assume this will be another very low-key wedding ceremony far from the spotlight which ultimately caused some of the problems in the marriages of three of the Queen's children.
