Pop princesses regularly enter stage right to the cheers of the crowds. Today, though, it was an 81-year-old lady and her 86-year-old husband who received the kind of reception normally reserved for the likes of Kylie Minogue or Britney Spears.

Taking their seats for a concert at the Kitante School in Kampala at the end of a successful four-day visit to Uganda, the Queen and Prince Philip were greeted by deafening screams and applause from pupils.



Such a welcome hasn’t only been reserved for the Queen and her husband of 60 years.

The Prince of Wales was at one point mobbed by locals as he undertook an engagement in Kampala as he continued a tour on which has incorporated attempts by Charles and Camilla to essentially woo Commonwealth leaders.


As already reported, it’s by no means certain that the prince will be installed as Head of The Commonwealth following his ultimate accession to the throne.

Having done their duty in Uganda, Charles and Camilla have today enjoyed a little sightseeing, crossing the Nile river at its source at Jinja.

Fresh from her latest public appearance alongside the Queen and Philip, Camilla was in jovial mood, joking with onlookers: "We have only got four and a half thousand miles until we get to the other end".
