The
Queen and other senior members of her family may be continuing to enjoy their Christmas and New Year holiday at
Sandringham, but it is their public service which is at last making headline
news.
Following a long tradition which first began in 1979, the table of engagements undertaken by the royal family has been
revealed following analysis of the daily Court Circular by former insurance broker Tim O'Donovan.
So just who has hooked the title of 'hardest working royal'?
Suffice to say, you won't be surprised by the answer.
Once unfairly condemned as "Princess Sourpuss" by a media exasperated by the 'failure' of the Queens only daughter to live up to
the image of (in her words) a "fairytale Princess", Anne is today the royal who
receives the plaudits of press and public alike.
According to the annual table compiled by Mr ODonovan, the
Princess Royal continues to undertake the most engagements, carrying
out 613 in the last twelve months.
But
whilst Annes workload is unsurprisingly impressive, tabloid critics of
'Air Miles Andy' may be surprised to discover that the Duke of York is
officially the second hardest
working member of the House of Windsor.
Since he took over from the Duke of Kent as Britains Special Trade Ambassador,
Prince Andrews workload has increased twofold.
In 2007 alone, the Duke of York carried out 556 engagements. This is an increase of
25% on the previous year.
