While Princess Beatrice is yet to achieve her ambition of learning the art of ballroom on Strictly Come Dancing, her cousin Zara Phillips is to team-up with a handsome winner of the BBC show: cricket star Mark Ramprakash.

But Zara's boyfriend Mike Tindall needn't worry, for it's all in a good cause....

Princess Anne's daughter is to offer some morale-boosting support as captain of a team of fifty-one London Marathon runners who'll be going more than an extra mile to raise money for patients suffering brain and/or spinal injuries.

In showing her support for the London Marathon, Zara is following in the footsteps of her royal ancestors, including Queen Alexandra.

Zara will share share the honorary role of team captain with Mark Ramprakash. This role has previously been held by such famous faces as TV sports presenters Des Lynam, Gabby Logan and Kirsty Gallacher.

This year’s race on April 13th heralds the 10th anniversary of The Daily Telegraph/Brain and Spine Foundation London Marathon team.

Writing about her upcoming role in today's Telegraph, Zara says: "It was an honour to be asked to be non-running joint captain of the Daily Telegraph/Brain & Spine Foundation team in their 10th year at the London Marathon."

"I know that our team will be making an extra special effort in their training and on the day itself, when I am sure the team will take the 10-year total past the £1 million mark.”

Referring to her own attempts to achieve success in Beijing later this year, Zara continues: "I'm in an Olympic year and aware of the sacrifice, commitment and determination needed to succeed in any serious sporting endeavour.”

"Undertaking to run a marathon and, indeed, being sponsored to finish it, is no mean feat."

"Congratulations to every one of the team runners who have been selected and every mile they run will be saving lives through the work of the Foundation."
