In recent times, the Queen's enjoyed a slightly incongruous boost in her street cred with claims HM has become a Wii Sports fan and owns both a mobile phone and an iPod.

Now, though, comes a story which appears to show that the 81-year-old monarch isn't wholly keen to see and hear all via the latest wonders of modern technology....

According to the Daily Mirror, the Queen started the year less than amused when she discovered staff had taken the initiative to trade in her favourite old TV set for a new, flatscreen model which is capable of broadcasting programmes in high definition.

Only last month, the Queen herself became the latest HD star when the BBC recorded her 50th Christmas Day broadcast using the new technology.

But we should be wary that this story isn't another TV-related repeat.

Less than two years ago, it was reported that the Queen had dug deep into her pocket and treated herself to a brand new widescreen television.

It could simply be that the Queen is primarily unhappy at the HD aspect of her new eye on the world.

After all, how many of us would wish to see ourselves featured on a large widescreen TV which is capable of showing each and every flaw in the minutest detail?!

If the HD TV is still in residence, the Queen might be wise to keep news of the purchase away from her eldest son.
