The sole survivor of the car crash which claimed
the lives of Diana, Princess of Wales, Dodi
Fayed and Henri Paul has denied being part of a murder cover-up.
Trevor
Rees has also said he can still remember very little about the
crash in which he broke every bone in his face and suffered serious chest injuries.
Giving evidence at the High Court this morning, Trevor Rees formerly known as
Trevor Rees-Jones denied claims put forward by Mohamed Al Fayeds legal team
that he was part of a conspiracy to murder.
Ian Burnett QC, for the Coroner, told Mr Rees: "What is being suggested by
Mohamed al Fayed is that you are part of a conspiracy to suppress the truth
that his son, the Princess of Wales and Henri Paul
were murdered by the British security services, MI6, call them what you will."
Speaking quietly, the former bodyguard whose relationship with Mohamed Al Fayed
collapsed in acrimony, replied: "I am not part of a conspiracy to suppress the
truth at all. All I have ever done is given the truth as I see it."
The cross-examination then moved to discussion about the 2000 book, titled The
Bodyguards Story, in which Trevor Rees gave his side of events in the third
person to author Moira Johnston.
Also interviewed for the book were Mr Rees
mother and the surgeon who reconstructed the face of Dodis bodyguard.
Mr Burnett QC also asked: "It has also been suggested that the book was written
with Dominic Lawson, who was the editor of the Sunday Telegraph. Is that
true?"
Replied Mr Rees, who was sat in the front seat of the Mercedes, alongside driver
Henri Paul, again responded in the negative, saying: "That is not
true."
Comment: How absurd for the Al Fayed team to even suggest that this man is part of a cover up. TRJ almost died, for goodness sake! Wouldn't he be the first one to go after the truth?
