Breakfast television viewers in America have been given a rare glimpse of
life behind the walls of Buckingham Palace by noneother than the Queens second
son, Prince Andrew.
The Duke of York has also spoken about his own life and that of his family,
including his "outstanding" army officer nephews, Prince William and Prince
Harry.
Interviewed by Today show host Meredith Vieira, Andrew showed his playful side
when the presenter appeared to make something of a faux pas by telling the
often boisterous Duke that he doesnt seem shy.
The exchange began when Andrew spoke of his early life behind the closeted
walls of Buckingham Palace, declaring of himself: "One assumes that one was
naughty, but Ive always been told I was extremely well-behaved as a child. I was a quiet kid."
This comment prompted the presenter to ask: "Why do you think that is? You
dont seem quiet."
Realising that this could be taken the wrong way, Ms Vieira added: "Im
not trying to insult you."
The 47-year-old Duke laughed and touched his guest on the arm, saying: Would
you like to take your foot out of your mouth and start again?"
Replied the host: No, Im American, we leave it firmly inserted."
