William & Kate TV Special: Do Not Broadcast Until 2009? PDF Print E-mail

The front page has been held for some time. Now the airwaves are already prepared for the official announcement of the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

In fact, so certain is one British TV station that the prince will finally pop the question that Independent Television News has just finishing recording an official royal engagement documentary, the broadcast date of which may be some time in being confirmed.

After years of engagement speculation, the general concensus – one which has previously proven utterly wrong of course! – is that William and Kate will marry next year.

By this point William will have concluded his military training and is expected to be carrying out a more regular round of official engagements.

But whilst the media may think they're one step ahead of the palace, it would seem the once far-from-media-savvy royals are two steps ahead of the media.

Word appears to have already gone out from the royal hierarchy over the question of media access to the very place in which William and Kate first met.

Over five years since a camera crew from Prince Edward’s Ardent production company ran into problems after breaking a pre-arranged rule not to stay in the vicinity following William’s arrival at St. Andrew's University, ITN were informed they too were barred from filming within the University grounds.

Interestingly,
according to diarist Celia Walden of the Daily Telegraph, the reason given was that such access would not be permitted until an "official announcement" had been made.

In reality, such a pre-emptive move as this is nothing new in the world of television.
