Paper: Army Making 'Frantic Arrangements' To Evacuate Harry From Afghanistan PDF Print E-mail

The Guardian newspaper is reporting that the army has been forced to make "frantic arrangements" to remove Prince Harry from Afghanistan after the US-based Drudge Report website – one of the biggest and most powerful websites in the world – broke the news blackout and revealed that the third-in-line to the throne is currently fighting the deadly Taliban forces alongside other members of the British army.

According to Guardian reporters Richard Norton-Taylor and Audrey Gillian: "The prince, who is 10 weeks into a 14-week tour, was believed to be still in the country last night among British soldiers in the southern Helmand province."

The report continues further down the page: "Commanders are now expected to activate their contingency plan to fly the prince out of Afghanistan as quickly as possible amid fears that the Taliban will now set up attacks on British bases."

In Britain at least, the decision by Matt Drudge to break the news over a month before the end of Prince Harry's tour of duty is now threatening to become a bigger story than the revelation that a grandson of the queen and son and brother of the future kings has been allowed to serve on the front line in one of the world's most dangerous war zones.

........ Drudge picked up the story from a sheet in Australia/New Zealand so is not the one to break the embargo.

Memo to Sunbonnet:
Valerie Plame was "outed" as a CIA operative by Bob Novak, not Matt Drudge.

I'm no admirer of Drudge or his report, but to set the record straight, it was Karl Rove through CNN correspondent Robert Novak who outed Valerie Plume because her husband, retired diplomat Joseph Wilson, criticized George Bush's Iraq policy. Drudge came to fame by releasing the story about Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, which had nothing to do with Whitewater, but which eventually led to Clinton's impeachment. Drudge will claim, if he hasn't already, that he didn't break the story in the first place, although he made sure everyone knew about it.

The media should stop to think about the power of their words and the ramifications.

How deliberately cruel of this man to expose Harry not only to physical danger but to know how much this meant to him.

Oh,NO! That scurrilous, ratty, betrayer Matt Drudge is at it again. And this time, he has reached over to your country to tell the world Prince Harry has been serving in Afghanistan. He has ruined HRH's dream of fighting alongside his army companions and even endangered Prince Harry's life. We all pray that the Prince can get back home safely.Your press honorably, decently and generously stayed silent, but for Drudge, NOTHING matters except a "scoop". He himself IS a large scoop of vicious darkness and disgusting hubris, to say the least. I have never read or listened to him, but a couple of years ago, he "outed" one of our CIA agents, Valerie Plame, which put some of her overseas CIA cohorts in grave danger. It's rumored some were killed because of that "outing". It seemed to be a treasonous act to me. I doubt he will ever receive any sort of official rebuke from our present regrettable leadership. I am a very disgruntled American who is fed up with the past 7 1/2 years of having to suffer this sort of shameful action visited on us as well as on the rest of the world. I am so sorry this dreadful betrayal has inevitable consequences for Prince Harry, and will certainly, and very justly, infuriate our English friends. Many of us Americans think Prince Harry is a fine young patriot. We admire his strength and courage. We fondly wish him well. I am horrified to find that it's a citizen of my country who has acted so despicably and ruined his tour of duty. My profound apologies to Prince Henry and to you, A very sad Sunbonnet

I wish to say that Mr. Drudge is not a reflection of America. I am sorry for this. God Bless HRH Prince Henry. Tish Parker, Texas

It's a pity Harry's deployment in Afghanistan was ever leaked . Most posters on this and other
Royal M/B s would have guessed where he was , but had carefully refrained from contributing to the sort of Media circus that sadly prevented his deployment with his men to Iraq in the first place .

Harry has had to put up with a great deal from the Press over many years , so congratulations to him for a really good effort thumbsup
