BREAKING NEWS: Diana Inquest Coroner Will Not Call The Queen or Philip PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Friday, 07 March 2008

In breaking news which, in reality, will surely come as little surprise to the majority, the Coroner at the inquest into the deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed has just ruled that the Queen and Prince Philip will not be called to give evidence.

Michael Mansfield QC had requested that the royal couple be made to answer questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of their former daughter-in-law in the Paris car crash of August 1997.

Mohamed Al Fayed and his legal team have repeatedly argued that Prince Philip in particular played a part in what the Harrods boss believes to have been a conspiracy to murder the princess in the aftermath of her 1996 divorce from Prince Charles.

Handing down his ruling in response to requests from Mr Mansfield QC to ask questions of the Queen and the Duke, Lord Justice Scott-Baker said: "
In my judgment it is not expedient to call the Duke of Edinburgh to give evidence, nor do I think the Queen should be asked to answer the questions posed by Mr Mansfield."

"Neither step will, in my judgment, further the inquest process."

Responding to the decision, Mr Fayed's spokeswoman Katerine Witty (the former Royal Correspondent of Sky News) said he is "extremely disappointed" by the ruling, continuing: "He hopes the coroner will make publicly known his reasons for the decisions."

"In the meantime, Mr al Fayed's lawyers are discussing the legal options open to them, including judicial review."

I found this historical flashback interesting."The king and queen earned the respect and love of their people in the dark days of the Second World War. Other European kings and queens were being forced to flee their homelands, but Queen Elizabeth declared, "I shall not go down like the others." She learned to fire a revolver so she could fight to the death if necessary. Despite the threat of a German invasion, the king and queen refused to send their daughters out of the country. "The princesses cannot go without me," Queen Elizabeth explained. "I cannot go without the king. The king will never go."The girls spent the war years at Windsor Castle..." excerpted from http://www.royalty.nu/Europe/England/

Of course who could reflect on such a matter better?

Exploora I don't think you are correct about the title Princess of Wales. It was decided to call Camilla Duchess of Cornwall to avoid confusion. She had that opportunity, much better than the 2nd Mrs. Bloggs.

The title of Queen will be different. A Queen Consort would become HM Queen X......, using her own name, the sole holder of the title. The QM was Queen Elizabeth, but our current Queen is Queen Elizabeth II as reigning monarch, not consort.

The Prince is on every Philosophy student's book list and can be interpreted how you wish. The power that the Medici family exercised is so evident in Florence.

However, I think we could find explanations for Fayed's actions within the quoted text.

"A son (paraphrase father) can bear with equanimity the loss of his father (paraphrase son), but the loss of his (aspired) inheritance may drive him to despair".

Indeed, Fayed has so enriched himself with his shop and his last ambition would have been citizenship and then a title - possible Baron Fayed of Knightsbridge (he has everything else). The title is the must have for a successful man with riches beyond belief. He had been thwarted in the first round and hoped that if Diana joined his family that he would achieve his heart's desire.

Evidence: cash for questions, trying to gain preferment with the Queen by sponsoring the Windsor Horse Show, providing employment for Raine Spencer and the rest....

Niccolo was showing us the power of the Prince, and how the Prince keeps his power. Of course if the book had not been dangerous to the powers to be, the book may have not been banned off and on.

"So as a prince is forced to know how to act like a beast, he must learn from the fox and the lion..." Niccolo Machavelli.

Possibly during the after-time of war, the strongest Force, the force that wins, has the power to make laws. The winner gets to ring the bell and excercise his divine right of Kings possibly simple rape and pillage if you belong on the losing side. happy-smiley It is much easier to respond to sarcasm, than to turn away from such temptation. Whilst glancing into the direction Monica is pointing to, I ponder so silently, wondering if Niccolo is not turning in his grave at this moment, at the thought that our current living Princess of Wales is not even going by her title, possibly due to fear of possible public contempt.

Technically, she could also become Queen Camilla, but again possibly won't go with her title to avoid public contempt.

"Nostrodamus or Macheavelli? All the answers might be found in "The Prince".

Unfortunately, a little tongue-in-cheek comment becomes fodder for actual discussion. I think the reason that the first two inquests came to the same conclusion is that they deal in fact. Harping on supposed connection between the Queen and ambulance drivers falls into the realm of convenient fiction.

According to Machiavelli, a stable state is the greatest moral good and the protection of the state justifies any action, no matter how cruel. He was writing about the Medici family, but The Prince is considered one of the most influential books on politics, particularly the acquisition, perpetuation, and use of political power. In it, Machiavelli justified rule by force rather than by law.

Marriages only work if BOTH partners work at it. They are partnerships of TWO people. In that marriage there were faults on both sides and nobody can deny them. They were BOTH out of step and it was right for them to part.

We can whitter on and on about this marriage .... but it was over long before she died. Time to move on. Britain has moved on and has demonstrated, as regards the royals, Britain doesn't live in the past. We must not and cannot.

We look forward to this generation's happy unions - William and Harry's brides, whether they are Kate or Chelsea. All we we can do is wait for the story to unfold and be happy for them.

I think Di would have been very happy, if her first marriage had worked out. Dr. khan probably needed someone who was just starting out and hadn't been married before, or had kids, that is probably what happened, Di probably realized that.

Mobs hurt people all the time, without a plan, it is just brute power of a mob.

I think if Di had been pregnant at the time, the little boy or girl could have been mobbed too.

What a sad ending to such a gracious person.

The thing about Niccolo's Prince, the meanings appear to be different in different translations, but the point being, is without respect or fear, Prince has no power. The prince's power appears to be very militaristic in many ways and it based on respect and lost through contempt.

But if the Prince plays his cards right, he can control the mob.

I will make one point - if Diana had been pregnant at that time, and if the baby's father WAS NOT the Prince of Wales it would not have joined the royal succession. Also such a birth would not have had any impact on the succession of Prince William to the throne whose father IS the Prince of Wales. The heir of the Monarch carries the succession NOT his wife or former wife.

There are a great number of coincidences in addition to Di's belief that she was going to be taken out.

Nobody has explained what MI-5 or MI-6 KNEW about her fears.

It has been stated that SHE withdrew from their protection. Do we know WHY she did this?

Nobody has explained why for 90 minutes she was not treated, despite OBVIOUS extensive internal injuries; that the rate of progress to the hospital was less than 10 miles per hour when the ambulance finally "got going."

Nobody has explained how it is she happened to die precisely underneath a monument devoted to the Goddess Diana.

Nobody has gone on record to detail the effects of "worst-possible-case," if she had been pregnant by a Muslim, vis a vis the accession of her son to the Throne of England (which is moot anyway).

So, we don't know a whole lot more than we did when this exposition began. And maybe that was the point, to amuse us without informing us, which is "normal" for the Powers That Be. (Sorry to be so cynical.)

I don't think it is clear that Di really wanted to dump Dr. Khan as her BF or felt he was replaceable.

I think it is clear that Dr. Khan felt that he had been dumped for another man, more correctly, it is clear he told the police he felt this way.

Di never made an official statement to such effect, so we only know what Dr. Khan assumed was Di's motives.

Di may have wanted to protect Dr. Khan from having an "accident" or some other form of "gong" show life altering incident from occurring, due to the possible media circus threat or something else that was threatening. Possibly if Dr. Khan had been with Di, he would have found himself in Dodi's place.

Possibly Dr. Khan would have been more sensible relating to having a security plan, the way he sounded so sensible relating to the hole in the disguise plan...and would have avoided going out so late and possibly ordered soup and possibly considered ordinary activities Di and he could do together... who knows.

I am sure Colleen just made a typo, but to clarify, Dr. Khan I do not believe was ever Di's doctor but doctor-friend, as I understand it, so she didn't dump him as her doctor either. Though I do agree he did sound very clinical when describing their intimate moments, he possibly found it more comfortable to talk that way when talking to the police about getting dumped.

I bet these error type misunderstandings are typical of what happens all the time to the Royals...and why a competent legal representative would vigorously object to any comment based on hearsay to be treated as evidence.

I think HM and Prince Philip, with no disrespect meant of course, couldn't go potty without the "help" knowing.

With all the time and money spent we are no further ahead do you expect the Queen and Philip and Charles to say they plotted to murder Diana or M16 to say we bugged her and were part of the plot. The only thing that has remotely surprised me was that Diana was the one who dumped her Doctor. It will be predictable but interesting to hear what the jury has to say.
