Australian Magazine: 'We Were Insensitive & Irresponsible' Over Harry Story PDF Print E-mail

An Australian magazine has admitted it was "insensitive and irresponsible" to print details of Prince Harry's military service in Afghanistan just days after he arrived in Helmand Province at the start of what was initially planned to be a three-month tour of duty before the news blackout collapsed.

However, New Idea magazine has once again re-iterated that it "did not knowingly breach any embargo and were not party to any agreement for a media blackout on the story."

"However, and more importantly, we do acknowledge that our actions in publishing the story can be reasonably viewed as insensitive and irresponsible."

In a statement released a short time ago in Australia, bosses at the women's weekly said: "We regret this serious lapse of judgment."

"We sincerely apologise to all our readers, to the servicemen whose lives are at constant risk while serving at home and abroad and to their families and loved ones."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that a British soldier is under internal investigation after allegedly attempting to sell photographs to The Sun which show Prince Harry with his military colleagues in Afghanistan on Christmas Day 2007.
