William & Harry Salute The Troops PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Thursday, 27 March 2008

They’re two of the most famous soldiers in the world. Now, Prince William and Prince Harry are to promote the often unsung work of all those who serve Queen and Country by becoming Joint Patrons of a new organisation titled the City Salute Appeal.

Releasing the news of the latest foray into the royal round of public duties by the siblings whose private rather than public lives tend to dominate the news agenda, Prince William said in a statement released by Clarence House today: "As brothers, we are delighted to be supporting the City of London in saluting all those who serve their country."

"As well as raising money for vital rehabilitation facilities, City Salute is an opportunity for us all to celebrate the fantastic contribution made by our servicemen and women and their families."

"It is also a chance to pay tribute to the casualty evacuation and medical staff of all three Services who protect and care for the wounded so brilliantly and with such tireless dedication."

The news of the joint royal patronage comes just weeks after Prince Harry returned home following a ten-week tour of duty with the British army in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan.

Recalling his experience of the harsh realities of life on the front line, the prince went out of his way to highlight the bravery of the soldiers whose service doesn't always make headline news and, at times, results in life-threatening injuries or death.

You can read full details of the City Salute Appeal at the official website which has been launched today.

M-M, good point about the brothers not being joined at the hip. A joint patronage also sets them up for all sorts of comparisons (fair or not) to be made.

These Royal brothers are not joined at the hip , as this article implies - their experiences of war have been individual ones , just as their characters are entirely individual .

If they both want to support injured soldiers that is good - because in many cases returned heroes do not recieve much Government support !

As long as there will be no 'after party ' that is laughing-smiley
