The First Editions: "Shabby Burrell" Returns To The Front Page PDF Print E-mail

The temptation to kick Paul Burrell while he's down is too easy to overlook for Fleet Street this Wednesday morning.

For the second day running, and with the inquest into the deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed heading towards a conclusion, the British press are focusing in on the coroner's negative view of the evidence put forth by the princess's 'rock' during his January appearance in Court 73.

As you may have read earlier today, during his summing up of the almost six months worth of evidence, Lord Justice Scott Baker directed the six men and five women jurors that, although Burrell's behaviour "has been pretty shabby", this analysis must have no bearing on their ultimate verdict as to how the two British citizens of the Paris crash, Diana and Dodi, met their deaths.

Continued the coroner:
"I advise you to proceed with caution especially if you are left with the impression that he only told you what he wanted you to hear."

"The fact that he has not told you the truth on some occasions does not mean you cannot accept anything he has told you, but you should proceed with caution."

Featuring the latest from the inquest on its front page, the Daily Mail again features the photograph of Burrell with the princess in Bosnia in early August 1997, just weeks before Diana died of the severe internal injuries she sustained in the Paris car crash.

As you can see, the headline is direct, reading: 'Diana coroner's damning attack on 'shabby' Burrell'.
