It's just been announced that the Queen's 86-year-old
husband, Prince Philip, has been admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London.
As you may have seen here earlier in the week, the Duke of
Edinburgh cancelled an appearance at the memorial service for Sir
Edmund Hillary on Wednesday due to a serious cold.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace: "The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital for assessment and treatment for a chest infection."
"His Royal Highness's programme of engagements for the weekend have been cancelled".
Walking without any aid, the Duke was admitted to hospital on Thursday afternoon, a move which royal aides say was nothing more than a precaution.
The royal patient is reported to be continuing to work on his paperwork from his hospital bed.
Today's news comes just months after the London Evening
Standard exclusively revealed that Prince Philip is receiving constant treatment for a long-standing heart problem. The Palace never confirmed or denied this report.
