New Speculation Over Charles & Camilla's Marriage PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Sunday, 06 April 2008

In July 2006, there was widespread media speculation about the stage of the marriage of Charles and Camilla after the prince continued his duties as normal while his wife mourned the death of her octogenarian father, Major Bruce Shand.

It was rumoured then that the prince who is known to suffer "gnashes" (i.e. periods of intense rage) which afflicted his grandfather, King George VI, had become so frustrated during one heated exchange with Camilla that he’d kicked and smashed a vase at Highgrove.

On Friday, the Wales family will be back in the spotlight as Prince Charles presents his eldest son, Prince William, with his wings as he passes out following a four-month attachment with the Royal Air Force.

The event will possibly herald more speculation about the state of another union, the Mail also reporting today that a notable absentee will be Kate Middleton.

Keen to keep his private and public life separate, the prince and Kate have apparently agreed that she won't make a high profile appearance such as that which dominated the headlines when he passed out from Sandhurst military academy in December 2006.

Exploora, if William's decision was based on not giving the media what they want (pictures), then more power to him. I think he is quite good at manipulating them, and, IMO that was the reason for their "breakup." I only hope he is not the type of man who will be jealous of the attention his lady receives. You know what they say about apples and trees, but let's hope this will be an exception! When JFK proclaimed himself to be the man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to Paris, it was a public recognition that he KNEW he was a lucky man. Rather than being jealous of her, he appreciated what an asset she was. But I suppose it takes maturity and a generous spirit to do so.

Losing a parent is really hard, and it doesn't help that the first question people ask is well how old were they? That is not the point. The hole left behind is there as a reminder of one's less. Everything.I think it is possible the RF doesn't operate or experience things like a typical family which would make sense that members probably don't mourn the same way, or given the chance too . I draw this conclusion from no one visiting Prince Philip from the RF, the way normal families would have, especially his wife. It wouldn't have been practical. It is just my opinion.I have never heard of that term gnashes before.

Lots of families fight though I haven't seen the Owl family fight yet. Their life is on a cam too very similar to the way the RF is. I am not saying it is right to fight. So what happened after? I know it is none of my business, but did the POW take Camilla out, buy her something she would like, he probably did something to try to make up for it. We never hear about that part do we? And why are the help still talking about these private family matters in public?

Carrying on to my next point. I can see why William wants to separate the private from the public. I think letting Kate enjoy his passing out could have been something positive they could share decades down the road from this point in time. And normal GF and BF probably would share such a moment.

This is the couple after all who nearly drove Diana crazy with unhappiness . And it all seemed quite amusing then .

It is interesting that Charles is being blamed in the Press - could it be that Camilla has a better
PR system to plant the leaks ? Whatever , sadly for her , no one will care much bigsmile-smiley

Julie,

Loved your comment about the Adams vs "Royal" family...they ARE a strange lot. Seems to me, if this is true, that Charles is the problem. Diana and Camilla couldn't be more different and both found it hard to cope.

Monika,

You mean to tell me it's the weekend?! Aagh...I missed that clown

To paraphrase what I think is a famous advert: 'The weekend doesn't start here'. blue-smiley

Seriously, though, it's kind of you to notice and comment on that aspect, thank you.

Joanne, I see you are having a quiet Sunday. laughing-smiley And I'm glad to be on this side of the pond so you can't throw something at me for saying that! laughing-smiley

Well, I suppose my comment is expected (even if not always wanted) so here I go... happy-smiley

For a moment, let's forget that we are talking about the PoW and Camilla. Let's pretend this is any couple that married after enjoying an adulterous affair. Well, the realization that the grass isn't as green on the other side shouldn't come as a shock, and it defies common sense to suggest otherwise.

Given his upbringing, I believe Charles has a very demanding and selfish personality. Camilla may have had ‘a way with him’ when she was his mistress but it’s quite a different situation to live with him as his wife. Once upon a time, she was able to shower him with sympathy and understanding for all his marital woes, but now she is the wife and she is experiencing the other side of the story.

Some of these conflicts, and Charles’ reaction to them, are consistent with that of his first marriage. The only thing missing is a third sympathetic ‘friend’. Perhaps that is when Andrew Parker Bowles comes in… laughing-smiley Life does go around and around, does it not?

The old saying "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it." comes to mind. Now maybe Camilla knows what Diana went through with Charles and the rest of the Addams, er, Royal Family.
