BREAKING NEWS: Al Fayed Declares: "Enough Is Enough...That's It For The Sake of The Princes" PDF Print E-mail

Mohamed Al Fayed has told ITN’s News At Ten that he "accepts the verdict" handed down by the jury at the High Court inquest into the deaths of his son Dodi and Diana, Princess of Wales.

A clearly tired and at times emotional Mr Fayed also revealed that he will no longer fight to prove his theory that Diana and Dodi were the victims of a murder plot perpetuated by MI6 on the orders of Prince Philip.

The Duke of Edinburgh was not mentioned in the interview.

Speaking in his first public response to Monday’s verdict, the Egyptian-born businessman told ITN’s Trevor McDonald in broken English: "I have decided, I think time for me now...I accept the verdict, but with lot of really things which I am not approving 100%, because the coroner have not explored all the potential to give the jury – whom I’m very grateful for – because the most important thing in the verdict  that they mention that is not an accident, [it] is an unlawful killing".

Quizzed about his possible legal options, Mr Fayed said: "After meeting with my lawyers this afternoon, there [are] still a lot of options, but I’m tired, you know."

At this point Mr Fayed went silent, his eyes clearly filling up as he struggled with his emotions and finally appeared to fully appreciate that his campaign is over.

Asked if he would like to continue the interview, Mr Fayed admitted: "Is difficult for me".

"But the most important thing is that the jury have came up that it is not an accident, is a murder, and this give me great satisfaction, because it has proved my point that my son and Princess Diana [have] been murdered."

Responding to a question about the fact Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as Prime Minister Gordon Brown, have essentially said the inquest verdict draws a line under the deaths of the princess and her boyfriend, Mr Fayed reiterated that he has been told that "so many" more legal options remain open to him, before explaining: "As I told you, enough is enough, and for the sake of the two princes whom I know, they love their mother and how close they been – and I saw them during the [summer 1997] holiday – and I’m sure they are blessing in their deep heart what I am doing to discover the truth."

"But as I say, I have enough, I’m leaving the rest for God to get my revenge, but I’m not doing anything any more."
