Marie
Cavallier’s journey from private citizen to Danish princess moved a step closer
today as the nation’s parliament held its first reading to grant citizenship to
Prince Joachim’s future wife.
Such a move was also taken ahead of Joachim’s marriage to his first wife, Hong
Kong-born Alexandra Manley, as well as the wedding of Crown Prince Frederik to
Mary Donaldson, who was born in the Australian state of Tasmania.
Queen Margrethe’s second son is due to marry French-born Marie at the Mogeltonder church in southern Jutland on May 24th,
following which she would automatically assume Danish citizenship, as well as
the title of 'Her Royal Highness Princess Marie'.
The couple have previously announced that they will live at Schakenborg
Manor in southern Jutland, where the prince runs his own estate.
Today’s
first reading of the citizenship bill drawn up by the minister for
refugee, immigration and integration affairs saw representatives from
across the political
spectrum offering their support to Marie in her quest to attain Danish
citizenship.
