The
Old Bailey has today heard details of the alleged attempted blackmail of a
junior member of the Royal Family.
The allegation is that the minor royal, who cannot be named in Britain due to
legal reasons, was targeted by two men who demanded a payment of £50,000 to
stop them publicly releasing a recording in which it was claimed the
royal had performed a gay sex act. It was also alleged that an aide to the royal figure took cocaine.
The recording is also alleged to contain details of a business "impropriety"
involving the member of the royal family, who is being referred to in court as 'Witness
A'.
The royal figure - who carries out no official public role - will not be called to give evidence in court.
31-year-old Ian Strachan and 41-year-old Sean McGuigan deny blackmail.
