Its
been revealed that, with the final days of the inquest yet to be incorporated, the
cost of investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Diana,
Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed has now reached £12.5 million.
This includes the £8m spent by
the Metropolitan Police on their investigation into the crash, as well as their recent input at the inquest.
Lord Stevens Operation Paget report, which was finally released in December 2006, concluded
that the couple and their driver, Henri Paul, died because of nothing more
sinister than a road traffic accident caused by the alcohol levels of the
chauffeur and the high-speed pursuit by the paparazzi.
This was essentially the same conclusion as that delivered by the jury at the
inquest which concluded last week with a verdict of unlawful killing due to the grossly
negligent driving of Henri Paul and the following vehicles.
The figures released today will ultimately rise as the costs of the final days
of the exhaustive six-month inquest are added to the previous total.
Comment: A hugely expensive waste , especially in view of the fact that the verdict was always going to be blamed on some one who was dead , and/or those totally unavailable for punishment

Comment: What a waste all around... If only Diana had been at Balmoral (bored, but safe!) with the rest of the clan.
