Palace Announces Christening Date For Sophie's Baby James PDF Print E-mail
Written by Joanne Leyland
Wednesday, 16 April 2008
Buckingham Palace has announced that the christening will take place inside the private chapel at Windsor this Saturday of the Earl and Countess of Wessex’s second child, Viscount James Severn.

The christening will be a wholly private event, with just one photograph, taken by John Swannell, to be released later in the day.

Four-month old James, who has made just one public appearance on the day he was taken home from hospital last December, will wear a hand-made replica christening gown based on that worn by Queen Victoria’s daughter.

This will be the first time that this particular gown has been worn by a member of the Royal Family, having been commissioned by James’ grandmother, the Queen.

Hi Jean Sue.

That's so true what you say.

Do you remember at the time Princess Eugenie of York was christened? For some reason the ceremony only took place in December 1990 - a whole NINE months after she was born.

I remember there were fears that Eugenie would no longer be able to fit into the increasingly fragile christening gown.

At least this christening is taking place a little sooner. I guess this is quick by royal standards laughing-smiley

Thanks for posting, as always happy-smiley
Joanne

After all of Victoria's children and grandchildren on down, my guess is the old christening gown was on its last legs. Plus babies are bigger these days. Very smart of the Queen to get a replica made and I bet they incorporated bits of the old lace.
