Eleven Years On, Diana Is Still Number One PDF Print E-mail

Over a decade since she died, Diana, Princess of Wales has been named the UK’s top heroine. However, the woman who worked for many years to warn of the dangers of drugs may not have been too thrilled to see who is deemed number one in the eyes of the next generation....

The late princess ranks high in a new poll commissioned by Sky TV in which British people of all ages have been asked to name their heroes.

The poll has been released to mark England’s national day of St. George’s Day.

Coming second to Diana in the general poll is Amy Winehouse - the drug-addicted singer who was catapulted to fame thanks to her hit song 'Rehab'.

In a result which has the ability to cause a chill down the spine of older Brits, respondents in the under 25 age group actually voted Amy Winehouse their number one heroine.

Number two is another troubled celebrity who is more usually associated with the word heroin: singer Peter Doherty.

He’s currently serving a 14-week prison sentence, during which time he’s been photographed on the front page of The Sun allegedly abusing drugs whilst in his jail cell.

Amongst the older generation such names invariably don’t figure.
