Davy has joined Prince Harry’s family for the first time at a major public
event this morning.
The prince’s girlfriend sat alongside Prince William in the front row at a
ceremony at Combermere Barracks in Windsor where Harry and other members of the
Household Cavalry received a medal from the Princess Royal in recognition of
their service in Afghanistan.
Also watching the event was the Prince of Wales, wearing a burgundy and navy
tie, the colours of the regiment of which both his sons are members.
However, for today at least, Prince Charles was almost little more than just
another proud father. The duty of pinning the Operation Service Medal on the
lapels of Prince Harry and his comrades fell to the Queen's only daughter, the Princess Royal (Anne), in her capacity as Colonel
of the Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry.
A
total of 170 soldiers were honoured at this morning’s ceremony,
following which the regiment marched through the streets of Windsor
before attending a
service at Holy Trinity Church.
Comment: I would guess there is some element of choice exercised by these young men as to who is there for them at key points of their lives since their mother's death .
With William it has been Charles and Camilla and the Middleton family .
With Harry it has been Charles , Tiggy and her husband , and Chelsy .
Diana's role has not been taken by Camilla when it comes to things concerning Harry .

Comment: I read the article. I was just commenting on the method relating to how public perception can be used to shift focus, and even shift awareness to something less important than the bigger picture.
Possibly I was being too subtle?

Comment: Exactly, Exploora...William's RAF ceremony was my frame of reference.
Colleen, I wonder too... I suppose Diana's family and friends are as involved as they are allowed/encouraged to be.

Comment: As the article noted, The Princess Royal distributed the medals in her capacity as Colonel of the Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry, rather than something related to the order of importance. This was a unit honor; so, William may also receive a medal if his unit is honored for their time in Afghanistan.
For those interested in Royal History, but who may not have the patience for reading, will find the BBC 1971 Elizabeth R, starring Glenda Jackson, both informative and entertaining; its accuracy is unparalelled.

Comment: Been perusing YouTube videos and came across Queen Elizabeth First's life story. She was distinguished intellectually, conversant in five languages and trained in political rhetoric. George III was a budding architect.
Sigh. True leadership has requirements too.

Comment: Well the Pow did pin Will's wings on Wills, with Camilla sitting by. I guess it has to do with something related to order of importance.
This assumption of course might not be true just appear to be true.
Perception I suppose reflects upon one's current access to information. Of course what we see probably has a lot to do with what is placed before our eyes. Ok, possibly everything, in some cases.
That is why, in my opinion, Joanne's work is so important. Her articles gives us a chance to develop a wider scope of vision, and a deeper understanding of current royal events.
Open government one would think could be freer with their commentary relating to purpose and objectives during these important events at this moment in time.

Comment: This brings up a question and wonder if anyone knows how involved are Dianas family and friends involved in the lives of Harry and William we always hear about Charles side but not Dianas

Comment: Parents are always pleased to be "just a father" at events like this and I am sure Charles was no exception. Lovely of Anne to handle the ceremony.

Comment: I apologize for what I am about to say, as it is definitely not meant to be a general anti-stepparent remark. It appears that Camilla was not there and I am glad. Just as she did not belong at Diana’s memorial service, IMO, it seems equally inappropriate to see her smiling face at milestone events like this in William and Harry’s lives. My comment is based on her role in their mother’s life and nothing else.
I hope Diana was represented by one of her sisters. I also wonder if Carolyn Bartholomew, Prince Harry’s godmother, was present? Given her close relationship with Diana, she would have been an ideal choice.
Throw tomatoes if you wish, but I suspect I am not alone…
